A Death Cafe provides a supportive, respectful and non-judgmental space to discuss death and dying. It is a group-directed discussion of death with no set agenda, objectives or themes. It is not a grief support or counseling session.The objective of a Death Cafe is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.

The BlackAFinSTEM Collective seeks to support, uplift, and amplify Black STEM professionals in natural resources and the environment through professional development, career connection, and community engagement. We aim to inspire new audiences to engage in nature and share the stories of Black conservationists from across the African diaspora.

​Join Trees New York's Arborist, Sam Bishop, and Environmental Educator, Christina McLaughlin, for a free tree walk at the historic Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn and learn about the trees. With more than 3,000 trees, and winding tree lined roadways, originally planned in 1849 by noted landscape architect A.J. Downing, the Evergreens is accredited as a Level II Arboretum.

Join Trees New York's Arborist, Sam Bishop, for a free tree walk at the Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn and learn about the trees. With more than 3,000 trees, and winding tree lined roadways, originally planned in 1849 by noted landscape architect A.J. Downing, the Evergreens is accredited as a Level II Arboretum. We will look at common and some less common trees in the cemetery's 225 acres, discuss the things that make them unique, and how they improve our environment.

Join The Evergreens Cemetery and Trees New York for this in-person walk about the trees and some history of The Evergreens Cemetery.

Directions: Please bring comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. The walk leader, Sam Bishop, will be holding a "JANE'S WALK" sign in the first corner at the entrance of the Bushwick Avenue gate (1629 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y., 11207). 

Arbor Day Celebration

Friday, May 1st, 2026

Students from a New York City public high school will visit the Evergreens to celebrate Arbor Day and learn about trees and the Evergreens Level II Arboretum. The celebration will include a tree climbing demonstration by a professional arborist, a tree identification walk with information on regional tree issues, and a special Arbor Day tree planting.
